Case Study 1 - SingTel Expan Managed Hosting
Service Centre 
Year: 2003
Client’s Challenge: To provide a
Service Centre application where customers of Expan
– one of SingTel’s premium Data Centre services
- can manage and configure aspects
of the accounts and service, monitor usage reports and statistics,
and so on. The
application is to provide a custom interface and access
crucial data at the Data Centre.
It is to have a custom interface, and premium branding.
Our Solution:
The most apparent solution for SingTel’s Service Centre
was a web-based application.
The thin-client advantages, as well as the ease of deploy-ability
suggested that a browser-based
solution was most suitable.
But in order to provide the level
of interface customization that SingTel required, HtmLab
needed
to modify the straightforward browser-based application
model. Instead, HtmLab built a
re-skinned version of MS Internet Explorer, removing standard
navigation buttons and replacing
them with Expan-related material.

The address bar was removed, concealing server and directory
information. The application
is deployed on-line and clients are automatically updated
with the newest version every time
they login.
Results: SingTel’s
Expan Hosting Service is steadily growing and the Service
Centre
has been a major component of their client’s customer
services.
Case Study 2 – StarHub ‘Free
Access’ Starter Kit 
Year: 2000
Client’s Challenge: At the time StarHub
approached HtmLab to develop a Starter Kit for
their 'Free Internet Access' campaign, they were anxious
to develop and launch their promotion
and the starter kit as quickly as possible in order to beat
their competitors to the marketplace.
Their challenge was to find and secure as many subscribers
as possible in order seize the
greatest possible market share of ‘free access’
web users. The solution needed to be
distributed widely and easily available. The signup process
had to be straightforward with as
few prerequisites as possible.
HtmLab was required to design and deploy a solution that
had no predecessor. It was to be
the first of its kind. And it was required to be delivered
under an accelerated timeline.
Our Solution: Because it was estimated
that most potential ‘free access’ users would
be
unfamiliar with the internet, a multimedia intro was included
in the cd-rom to educate users
about internet basics. The educational intro then merged
into a sign up wizard with an
integrated dialer creation tool. Customers were able to
select their own username/password,
which were fitted into the dialer and got customers accounts
started right away.

Results: The first ‘Free Access’
Starter Kit build in Singapore was a huge success, attracting
more than 100,000 users in the first two weeks. Other regional
ISPs subsequently released
similar programs, soliciting HtmLab for assistance in the
process.
